Programs

PBSC programs are transforming the culture in which law students prepare to become members of our profession. The students who participate in our programs are integrated into a national public interest law community, and thus gain access and contribute to projects, events and resources that broaden their exposure to and experience with a wide range of legal issues. Moreover, the public service provided by PBSC students has become a critical resource in the landscape of legal aid and pro bono services provided to communities. Community groups, public interest organizations, legal clinics and government agencies have come to rely on the services we provide and the contributions of our highly skilled and well-trained volunteers. PBSC students and their lawyer supervisors raise awareness about the contributions that the legal profession is making and can make, while significantly expanding the profession’s capacity to serve communities in need.

PBSC foundation programs enable students to support organizations through our Community Placement Program assist unrepresented litigants at courthouses or administrative tribunals through our Court and Tribunal Program, learn about new areas of law through our Pro Bono Awareness & Education Program, or direct and manage their own projects through our Student Leadership Program. Specialized programs like the Global Advocacy Program, the Multidisciplinary Program, Long-Distance Placement Program, and the Alumni Program provide members with other opportunities for contributing to enhancing access to justice. All of our programs are managed and facilitated by the PBSC National Office through the Technology Program which serves to connect our chapters across the country with one another and with the broader community.

The most help I have ever received! [The student treated me] with respect, and did not make me feel like an idiot for not knowing or understanding the law.
